ITIL V3

ITIL V3 consists of five core publications, often referred to as the ITIL V3 lifecycle stages:

  • Service Strategy: This stage focuses on understanding the needs of the business and defining the strategy for IT services to meet those needs. It involves determining which services to offer and how to position them for maximum value.
  • Service Design: In this stage, IT services are designed based on the requirements identified in the service strategy. It covers designing new services, as well as modifying existing ones, to ensure they are scalable, reliable, and cost-effective.
  • Service Transition: Service transition involves the planning and management of changes to IT services, ensuring that they are smoothly introduced into the operational environment. This stage covers activities like testing, validation, and training.
  • Service Operation: This stage is focused on the day-to-day management of IT services to ensure they meet business requirements. It involves activities like incident management, problem management, and monitoring.
  • Continual Service Improvement: This phase highlights the continuing IT service enhancement based on user feedback and performance information. It entails reviewing performance, locating problem areas, and making adjustments to improve service quality.

Each lifecycle stage consists of processes and practices that contribute to effective IT service management. ITIL V3 was widely adopted by organizations around the world for many years.
