ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) and SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) are two different frameworks used in the field of IT and software development. They serve distinct purposes and are not directly comparable, but they both play crucial roles in ensuring the successful management of IT services and software projects.

ITIL is a set of best practices and guidelines for managing IT services, ensuring that they align with the needs of the business and deliver value to customers. It provides a framework for IT service management (ITSM) and covers various processes and functions involved in the delivery, support, and management of IT services. The ITIL framework includes several stages, such as Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation, and Continual Service Improvement. Each stage outlines specific processes and practices for various aspects of IT service management.

The primary focus of ITIL is on the overall management of IT services, including incident management, problem management, change management, service desk operations, service level management, and more. It aims to improve IT service quality, efficiency, and alignment with business goals.

SDLC, on the other hand, is a structured approach to developing software applications or systems. It provides a systematic process for planning, creating, testing, deploying, and maintaining software throughout its life cycle. SDLC typically includes the following phases: Requirements gathering and analysis, Design, Implementation (coding), Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance.

The SDLC process ensures that software development is well-organized, predictable, and meets the specified requirements. It provides a roadmap for developers and project stakeholders to collaborate effectively and deliver high-quality software within a specified timeframe and budget.

In summary,  ITIL is a framework for managing IT services, while SDLC is a methodology for developing software. They serve different purposes within the IT and software development domains and can even be used together, as ITIL can help manage the services related to the software developed through the SDLC process.
